Production and processing of rough diamonds
Pikwane Diamonds’ mining operations are situated in Kimberley and are previously De Beers owned tailings. Pikwane Diamonds’ average production for 2009 was 30 000 carats and forecasts production for 2010 to be 45 000 carats. Pikwane Diamonds is contracted to mine on behalf of Kimberley Consolidated Mining (KCM), which is listed on ALTX.
Pikwane Diamonds took over Kimberley Consolidated Mining in November 2009 and is in the process of improving and restructuring operations.
Pikwane Diamonds will soon be commissioned to mine on behalf of a Namibian sea concession of approximately one million hectares in partnership with a Namibian company, Pegmatite Diamonds.
Pikwane Diamonds endeavours to ensure that due consideration is given to the environment and that ‘wastage’ is made use of.
Sedibeng
Pikwane Diamonds has a 19% shareholdings in Sedibeng Mining and Sedibeng Dumps, which is a processing mine dump for De Beers. Per month, an average of 54 464 tons are processed and approximately 10 000 carats are produced.
Samber Trading - Dumpco
Dumpco is currently processing 33 000 tons and producing approximately 2000 – 3000 carats per month from ex De Beers Tailing Dumps. Pikwane Diamonds took the company from being in the red zone to profit in one year.
Bo Karoo
Pico Diamonds (Pty) Ltd is an alluvial operation fully owned by Pikwane Diamonds and is contracted to Kimberley Consolidated Mining (KCM) as the sole mining contractor.
This operation is in production 45km between Douglas and Prieska, near the Lower Orange River and is processing approximately 66 000 tons per month.
When Pikwane Diamonds took over the company it was in serious debt and was suspended from ALTX. Pikwane Diamonds is reviving the operation to bring it to profitability and to a re-listing position.
Flamingo
Flamingo is a subsidiary of Pikwane Diamonds that has been established to wash tailing dumps in the area of Kimberley’s central business district.100 year old tailings are being rewashed from the ‘Big Hole’ with advanced machinery and approximately 12 000 tons are being processed per month.
Maxilia Trading CC
Maxilia is a diamond diving and sea exploration company incorporated on 29th March 2004 and is a BEE company 50% owned by Trevor Pikwane and 50% owned by Kevin Urry (renowned diamond buyer and businessman from the Northern Cape).
Maxilia owns and operates a 16m fully equipped, steel vessel called Ariel to recover diamonds from the sea.
Diamond Cutting and Polishing Facility
Pikwane Diamonds’ scientifically advanced cutting and polishing facility in Kimberley has been fully operational since 2005. Pikwane Diamonds’ highly skilled cutters ensure that precise quality control is maintained and offer on-site training as part of their commitment to beneficiation and skills development.
